Jan. 01, 1970 - Thames Rescue Service for the Thames: A rescue service is to be set up for the Thames and lifeguards are already being trained to operate inflatable rescue craft which are to be used for safety patrols at the regattas and swimming areas during the summer. The life guards men and women are fully trained unpaid volunteers. Training in the use of rescue craft took place today at Ham, under the guidance of instructors.
