Mar. 03, 1974 - World's Biggest Racing Catamaran Launched: The launching took place today at Brightlingsea, Essex, of the world's biggest racing catamaran, British Oxygen'. she will contest the 1974 Round - Britain Race in the hands of Gerry Boxall and Robin Knox-Johnson, and is scheduled for the 1976 single-Handed Transatlantic Race. The 70ft overall, 32ft beam craft, has been designed by Rod Macalpine-Downie, and is the first venture to be backed by British Challengers, an association of major firms and individuals formed to support British international sporting effort.
