1973 - A Full-Size authentic replica of the Golden Hinde Launched from North Devon Shipyard.: Golden Hinde a full-sieze authentic replica of Sir Francis Drake's ship constructed as a floating museum for a San Francisco company, was launched by the Countess of Devon last night at the Appledore, North Devon shipyard of J.Hinks and Son, where it was built. The vessel will carry out sea trials next month and in the late Autumn will make the Atlantic crossing under her captain Adrian Small, of Brixham.
