Sep. 09, 1974 - World Sailing Speed Record Series: the Clifton Flasher with her five distinctive solid wings and with Nigel Irens at the helm, reached 18.5 knots during the third John Player World Sailing Speed record series at Weymounth in which 26 helmsmen from Britain, France and Italy will be attempting this week to beat the existing record of 29.3 knots. Clifton Flasher's best speed last year was 16.2 knots
