Jun. 28, 1972 - June 28th, 1972 Sir Francis Chichester heads for home Sir Francis Chichester in his ketch Gypsy Moth V is heading for home 11 days after setting off on the single-handed race across the Atlantic. Sir Francis, who has maintained a radio silence was sighted by an R.A.F. Nimrod aircraft 600 miles off Land's End, sailing a course that would bring him to Plymouth.
