Oct. 10, 1977 - Ship's Bell returned the H.M.S. Belfast: An unusual ceremony took place today onboard H.M.S. Belfast, it was the occasion of the return to the ship of the magnificent inscribed Silver Bell originally donated by the people of the Belfast in 1939; but not presented to the ship (because of the war) until Oct 22md 1948. Fourteen years later, In November 1962, the Bell was returned to the City of Belfast when the ship was paid off into reserve. The Lord Mayor and Council of the City of Belfast have now agreed that the Bell should revert to its proper home in H.M.S. Belfast in her new and highly successful role as a flooing museum ship in the Pool of London. Photo shows seen during the handing back of the Bell aboard H.M.S. Belfast today are L-R.
