Jan. 01, 1980 - The Deadly Pride of the Red fleet-Kirov-captured by the Camera: Pictures which show details of the deadly pride of Russia's navy. The Kirov, were taken, checkily and methodically, from a Lynx helicopter launched from the British destroyer, Newscastle, which moved in when the Kirov made its manaing run into the North Sea last month. The Kirov is the largest surface warship-apart from aircraft carriers to be built since world war two. The latest stimates put her displacement weight at 22, 000 tone and she is armed with the latest anti-ship and anti-aircraft missile system. The main strike power is 20 SSNX-19 (Surface to Surface Naval Experimental) missiles and 12 San - 6 *Surface to Air Naval) and defence missiles. The pictures were taken by Chief Petty Office John Drew armed with a Hasselblad camera with 150 and 50 millimetre lenses, and copies are being sent to foreign navies.
