Sep. 09, 1975 - The Start of the London to Sydney and back clipper race: Yesterday four modern ocean racing yachts started off from Sheerness in what id perhaps the most demanding ocean race ever held. They are racing 27, 000 miles in two legs to Sydney, Australia, and back in an attempt to beat the record of 69 days for the outward and homeward passages between London and Sydney, set by the clipper ship Patriarch in 1869/70. Joint favourites for the race are the British yacht Great Britain II and Kriter II from Franc.e Photo shows Great Britain II (right) followed by CS and RB 11 Busnelli, the Italian entry, leading the race to Sydney yesterday soon after the start of the race from Sheerness
