Aug. 08, 1959 - Fastest British Naval Vessel. H.M.S. Brave Borderer: Fastest British Naval Vessel and believed to be the fastest warship in the world today is H.M.S. Brave Borderer, first of a new class of Fast Patrol Boats designed for offensive operations against warship and merchant shipping in coastal water. During her preliminary trials she exceeded a speed of 50 Knots. The Brave Borderer is powered by Bristol Siddeley Marine Proteus Engines, and among her special features is a hull constructed and basically of all welded aluminium members so far as the load bearing structure is concerned with planking of mahogany sheathed below water level in Fibreglass. She will carry three officers and seven ratings and her armament will consist of torpedoes and Bofors guns.
