Aug. 12, 1959 - Britain welcomes the Nautilus as she arrives at Portland Harbor: The United States nuclear-powered submarine Nautilus arrived at Portland Harbor this afternoon, at the end of her voyage which took her under the North Pole. Thousands of holiday makers cheered and ships siren sounded a welcome as the submarine approached the harbor.
