Feb. 02, 1956 - Helicopters rescue crew from sinking tug: Two R.A.F helicopters flew through a blizzard today and rescued two men from a sinking tug, about 20 miles off the East Coast. The pilots and their crews risked their lives to snatch the men from certain drowning as they clung to the rails of their doomel vessel with the waves breaking ever them. One of the pilots hovered over the tug - the 880 ton Rumania for 30 minutes while eight men were hauled into his aircraft from the waves 25-feet below. The rescue took place after the Rumania, with both lifeboats smashed by the heavy seas - ran aground on North Long Sand, off Pelixst, whilst steaming to the rescue of the Bilian ship Loide Honduras, aground on the North East Longlands.
