Feb. 02, 1956 - He Landed Up In The Drink The Daring Young Man Of The Flying Water Skis: Doug Leversha, a daring young Australian on the flying water skis - flew under the Sydney Harbour bridge on his skis - two feet off the water In three attempts to get airborne, he succeeded only in getting wet and breaking his kite. Towed by a speed boat, he spend up the harbour, and as the speedboat passed under the bridge, Doug lifted himself a few feet off the water. On the second run, he failed to get off the water at all - but on the third run, clinging grimly to the duralumin pipes of his canvas covered kite - he leapt 10-feet off the surface then came down heavily into the water. Seconds later a choppy wave unbalanced him and he pitched headlong into the water, snapping one of the kite's main-stays.
