Feb. 19, 1970 - World Champions in Nordic skiing events - fifth day: On February 18th the only event of the current World championships was the ladies 10 kilometeres cross country race. The 44 girl skiers from 14 countries run the tracks under very unfavourable freezing weather and heavy snowfall. Despite all these weather conditions, the course was interesting, very fast and dramatic. The top placings of the race where the Soviet skiers performed a fantastic speed. Olyunina from the second place struggled into the first and Kulakova, from the 13th, advanced even to the 3rd place. The race was a real fight which was never happened before in the High Tatras, The event was watched by about 7, 000 people in the stadium. Alevtina Olyunina, 27, Champion of the USSR for 1968 in 5km and 10 km run, with Soviet physician B. Saporenko, after the race. She won in 36:19.00 mins
