Mar. 03, 1976 - Torture in Uruguay confirmed by Uruguayan Army Officer: Amnesty International has released two photographs of men being tortured in Uruguay, they are the first photographs purporting to be of actual torture ever to come to the human rights organisation's attention Amnesty International, which last month launched a major world campaign to draw attention to torture in Uruguay. also published an open letter from a Uruguayan army officer who sent the photographs out of the country and who has witnessed and taken part in torture practices. According to the officer, the photographs were taken in one of the many private houses being used for the torture interrogation of political detainees He gives the address of one such house in Montevideo. Photo shows the top picture shows a hooded and naked man his wrists handcuffed behind his back enduring a painful form of torture
