1972 - Shooting Targets: An interesting exhibition-Prague Shooting Targets- has opened in Pragues Manicipal Museum. The exhibitionis a collection of 175 targets dating from the 18th and 19th centries. Also on display are fire-arms of Prague marksmen Until recently shooting targets were quite unknown. Czechoslovakia holds first place in their discoveries and in their artistic historic preservation. Today more than two thousand examples have been saved, most of which were buried in the storerooms of various museums. Shooting targets document the history of civic societies that originated as archery fraternities in defence of their towns. It is interesting to note that the oldest archery society in the world was founded in the 15th century at Krunks, in Northern Bohemia. The targets are docement of their period and important artistic works, mostly by anonymous folk artists. They depict various celebrations, mythological scenes, Allegories, still lifes, events from Army life, from Hunting, themes of love, ect, often supplemented with ethical rhymes.
