Oct. 10, 1952 - Armour purchased for the tower: Fifty two pieces of armour from the collection of the late William Randolph Hearst, the American newspaper propietor, have been bought for the Tower of London at a cost of £30, 000. It is the most important acquisition of modern times. The Pilgrims Trust subscribed £8500, the National Art Collection Fund £7500, the Tower Armouries Fund £7000 and a special Exchequer grant of £7000. Rearrangement of the Tower Armouries galleries will be necessary. E. Smith is seen holding a fine example of a French pistol dated 1600
