Feb. 02, 1953 - New British Gun for Forces Fighting the Mau Mau in Kenya: A new quick firing gun which may replace the Sten has been sent to forces fighting the Mau Mau terrorists in Kenya. General Sir John Harding handed two of the guns to the Commander of an African anti-Mau force near Nyeri, yesterday after watching them drill with bows and arrows. He said more guns are on the way. Then he seized one and put a burst through a wooden figure. The new weapon, the Patchett gun, is a 9mm. machine carbine. It has been issued for trials to troops in Baor and Malaya and should reach Korea soon. It is said to be a development of a gun designed in 1945 by Mr.George Patchett an English Engineer, which weighs 6 lb. and fires 600 rounds a minute without Kick'. Photo shows Sergeant Instructor.
