Bombs - Guns - Weapons
Jul. 07, 1953 - 100 army guns seized in van. In centre of Market town 28 miles from London.: More than 100 guns from an Army store were found in a van, stopped by police at Bishops Stortford, Herts, early yesterday. The miniature arsenal, piled high in the back of the van included 99 Le Enfield, 303 rifles, eight Bren guns, ten Sten guns, a two inch mortar, a Browning machine gun and an ati-tank gun. It was a 3-20 am when a police patrol car headed off the van in Potter Street, in the centre of Bishops Statford 0 28 miles from London. A second police car pulled up close behind the van. It all happened as part of a routine check as the police thought in unusual for a tiny van to be travelling through the town of that hour. Three men will appear in court today.
