Feb. 29 America's Latest Line Of Defense: The much feared Trident missile with its range of 4000 miles, now forms an essential part of America's defense strategy. The powerful missile with its atomic warhead is designed to be fired from submarines beneath the surface of the sea. Currently aboard some Poseidon submarines, the missiles are slated for use in the new class Trident nuclear submarine fleet due to come into operation in the 1980's. First of the submarine nuclear missiles were the Polaris class commencing operatioin in 1958, with a range of 1200 miles.
