Jul. 06, 1961 - West Germany, France and Britain to work together on Satellite - launching rocket: West Germany has replied favourably to the British and French proposals that Europe should set up and organisation to develop and produce rockets to launch satellites into space for peaceful purposes. Blue Streak would be the basis of the first program to be undertaken by an European satellite launcher organization. The Anglo French proposals envisage an initial five year program for a three stage launcher using Blue Streak as teh first stage, a French liquid propelled 22 foot long rocket for the second, and a third stage to be built elsewhere in Europe. The Spadesdam Rocket Establishment near Carlisle is equipped for the static testing of Blue Streak. The facilities built up at Woomera, Australia, make this the obvious choice for the testing of the complete multi-stage launcher and include a Blue Streak launching site.
