Jun. 06, 1965 - The man with the bomb: A 100 lb. bomb was found by a child yesterday in a scrap yard belonging to Dunbro Ltd, makers of drain rods and watermain castings. The child was fetching a ball which had been hit into the yard by fireman from Greenwich fire station, next door, in Blisset street, Greenwich. The child told the firemen, the firemen told the police, and the police told the army bomb disposal unit at Horsham, Sussex. Small groups of nervous people were waiting when L/Cpl. Jones and Major Henry Qaltrough arrived and there were gasps as Lance-Corporal Jones lifted, and there were gasps as Lance-Corporal Jones lifted the heavy bomb down the street and put it in the boot of a car. No one need have worried. The bomb was made safe after it fell in 1941. Someone had left it on the dump. Photo Shows Lance-Corporal Jones carries the bomb to the car yesterday
