1968 - Australia immy Carruthers beats America Pappy Gault in Bantamweight Title Contest in Sydney 45, 000 people saw the world championship fight between title holder Australia Jimmy Carruthers and American challenger Pappy Gault at Sydney Sport Ground. This was the first world championship boxing bout staged in Australia since the historic Jack Johnston ommy Burns match in 1908. Carruthers won the fifteen round contest on points.
