Dec. 12, 1955 - He became a boxer so that he could escape from his native Poland. heavyweight turns up in Munich.: Josef Pawel Pietron the second ranking heavyweight boxer in Poland - disappeared at Herford, Germany on October 23rd after beating a German contender for his title - turned up once again today in Munich - where he held a press conference. He arrived in Germany on October 18th, with a team of Polish boxers. He lost his first contest with a Schuttler at Bochum. After his next fight - at Herford - he disappeared instead of joining his team mates on the train back to Poland. He turned up at the station a little later and met two officials left behind to search for him - he gave them a note stating that he wished to remain in West Germany - and absolving them from any blame. He said he waited to continue boxing and hoped to go to U. S. A. He said that the main reason he became a boxer was that it would give him a chance of leaving his own country and escaping.
