Oct. 18, 1962 - Top meeting in the Vienna boxing world championship: On Oct. 17th, 62 in Vienna a 15 round fight of the two American top-boxers Emilie Griffith, world champion in the Welterweight (til 67kg), and the first class boxer Ted Wright of the middle weight took place. In the presence of about 8000 spectators Griffith won the fight by numbers. The Austrian Professional Boxing Association published, that this fight has to be seen as world champion fight for the new established Junior Middleweight Class in the European version, which is not yet accepted by the European Boxing Union (EBU).
