Feb. 29 Golfcourse with sunken treasure: Brian Powton goes driving for sunken treasure, but not for gold coins or rusty cannons. His booty is golf balls - about £1000 worth a year. Seanhouse golf course in Seahouses, Northumberland features a terrible tenth with a 160 yard floodeduarry pond between tee and green which swallows up hundreds of unlucky golfers balls. Very few months Brian puts on his wet suit and breathing gear and dives 40 feet to the bottom of the pond. On a recent ten-minute dive he scooped a staggering 237 balls, worth about £200. There must be thousands down there but it's pretty dark and the weeds are thick, says Brian. I could have picked lots more but I couldn't carry any more. The recovered balls are used for a good cause - they are cleaned up and given to club juniors for practice sessions. Photo shows view of the fearsome 172 yard par 3 hole across the pond
