British sixth formers, Australian Science Scholars
Jul. 07, 1968 - Royal Institution Australian Science Scholars: The five outstanding sixth-formers who have been selected to attend the International Science School for High School Students in Sydney, from 26 August to September 6 this year - were this afternoon at the Royal Institution. The International Science School is sponsored by the Science foundation for Physics within the University of Sydney, under the Directorship of Professor Harry Messel. Its programme will include 20 lectures by distinguished scientists from from all over the world, on the general theme of Man in Inner and Outer Space'. 20 overseas scholarships have been awarded: to five British students, five from Japan and ten from the United States. The scholarship entitles their winners to a round-the-world air ticket including two-week stay in Sydney for the Science School. This is the first year that British scholars will attend the School, but it is intended to continue this arrangement in future years. The five British sixth-formers were selected by a joint committee of the Royal Institution of Gt. Britain and the Association for Science Education. The five British scholars are: Anne Theresa Stimson, 18, of Chingford, Essex, who attends St. Mary's Grammar School, Woodford Green; Lina Talbot, who is nearly 17, of Newton Abbot, Devon, who attend Torquay Girl Grammar School; Ralph Andrews, nearly 17, from Heston, Middx, who is at Malvern College, Worcs; Jonathan Foreman, 17, from Ware, Herts, who attends Broxbourne Grammar School, Herts, and Richard Shuttleworth, nearly 17, from Croydon, Surrey, who attends Dulwich College.
