Aug. 08, 1970 - Niarchos Accused of Wife's Death. Prosecutor's Fatal Injury Claim. Stavros Niarchos, the Greek shipping magnate, was accused last night of fatally injuring his wife, Eugenie, 42, who died on his private island, Spetsopoula, on May 4. The accusation was announced by the public prosecutor in Piraeus, who has recommended that Mr. Niarchos be committees for trial. After Mrs. Niarchos death, a burial permit issues by the Athens mortuary said she had died from an overdose of barbiturates. A post mortem examination later revealed marks of injuries on the body. Mr. Niarchos married Eugenie, daughter of the late Mr. Stavros Livanos, Greek shipowner, in 1947. They had three sons and one daughter. She divorced him in 1965, and Mr. Niarchos married Charlotte Ford, daughter of the American car millionaire, Henry Ford. This marriage was dissolved in 1967 and last year Mr. Niarchos announced that he would like it known that according to the rules of the Greek Orthodox Church he continues to be the husband of Mrs. Eugenie Stavros Livanos'.
