Aug. 08, 1978 - Christina Onassis Second father dies: Professor Theodore Gharofalides who was like a father and Councillor to Christina and her brother Alexander, died September 18 and his funeral took place the following day at 6p.m. Even when her father Aristotle was still alive, Christina always looked at her uncle as if he was her own father. At the time when Olympic Airways belonged to Aristotlle Onassis, Prof.Gharofalides was president of the company and Aristotle's son Alexander was under his auspices. When in Greece, Christian very frequently stayed with her uncle who used to address her as his daughter due to the fact that he himself had no children of his own. Prof. Gharofalides born in Athens, 1898, studied medicine at Athens University and in Paris and undertook as post graduate in New York. In 1959 he became Professor of Orthopedics at Athens University. He also became director of the Askleipeion Hospital at Voula as well as the president of Greek Orthopedics. Adding to his record, he was also president of the Greek red cross and that of Olympic cruise ships. In an interview with Mrs. Artemis Gharofalidou (the wife of the deceased), upon being asked as to what she felt to the fact that Christina did not attend her uncle's funeral, she was reported as saying The child (Christina) should not have been made to get upset by attending the funeral of her uncle who was life a father to her, and left it to be understood that a woman who is pregnant should not get upset. Christina sent a wreath which read To my beloved uncle Theodore Christina Sergei. The funeral was attended by his wife, close relatives a multitude of friends and select members from the medical and business world. Photo Shows a.
