Apr. 17 Coping with Disaster: Refugees and displaced persons in South East Asia. : The humanitarian commitment of the international community was emphatically reaffirmed at a 2-day meeting convened in Geneva in July by UN Secretary - General Kurt Waldheim. The nations attending the meeting made substantial commitments of funds and offers of permanent asylum to help solve the immediate and long term needs of the hundreds of thousands of Indochinese refugees. and displaced persons in South-East Asia. the international relief effort is being co-ordinated by the UN High Commissioner for Refugees. A Laotian refugees of the Humong tribe living in the Sobtuang refugee camp in the Nan PRovince, Thailand. There are 2 camps in nan: The Sobtuang Camp and the Ban Nam Yao Camp. Living in these camps are refugees from Laos who have fled to Thailand since 1975. The Laotians refugees are from 5 major tribes: Hmong (or MEO), Yao, Phai (or Thin), Lao, and Khmu
