Burning of the Reichstag building, Berlin, Germany

27 February 1933 Reichstag burning! When this news went through the World on February 27th, 1933, many of us took it as an omen that the new rulers of Germany has sent the parliamentary democracy to the stake. For Hitler and his followers the burning German Reichstag (building of the former German National Assembly) was the burning light of a new speech in world history a spectacle staged to announce the beginning of the Third Reich. For democratic Germany, however, it was taken as the beginning of tyranny and disaster. Today, on February 27th, 1953 twenty years have passed since the burning of the Reichstag
