Mar. 31 David S. Lewis, Jr.: Biographical Sketch: David S. Lewis, jr. is Chairman of the Board, President and Chief Executive Officer of General Dynamics Corporation. Prior to joining General Dynamics in October, 1970, mr. Lewis was President and Chief Operating Officer of McDonnell Douglas Corporation. Mr. Lewis was born July 6, 1917. In 1939 he received a B.S. degree in aeronautical engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology and joined Glenn L. Martin Co. of Baltimore. He became chief of aerodynamics at McDonnell Aircraft Corp. in 1946 and four years later entered the design department. In 1952 he was appointed chief of preliminary design of the airplane engineering division. He was promoted to manager of sales in 1955 and the following year was named a project manager. He subsequently became manager of projects and Vice President of Project Management. In 1959 he was elected a senior vice president and in 1961 Executive Vice President. He was elected President in 1962, a position he continued to hold in the new McDonnell Douglas Corp. which was formed in 1967 byb the merger with Douglas Aircraft Co. Mr. Lewis is a director of BankAmerica Corp. Ralston Purina Co. a Fellow of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, a member of the Executive Committe and the Board of Governors of the Aerospace Industries Association, a member of various civic and social clubs. On May 23, 1971, Mr. Lewis was awarded the honorary degree of Doctor of Science (Business Administration) by Clarkson College of technology, Potsdam, N.Y.
