Feb. 02, 1965 - Just a matter of £400, 000, 000 American claim on the bank of England: To be seen in London yesterday was fifty five year old Mr. John Perring from Chicago who claims that the Bank of England owes his £400, 000, 000. He claims that the money has been accumulating since 1703 when the Bank of England were paying a distant relative monthly interest of 212 dollars. He estimates that this represented a £20, 000 bank deposit which he claims was never repaid when his relative died and now must be worth £400 Million. Mr. Perring claims one of his ancestors was Sir John Perring Lord Mayor of London in 1803-1804. The Bank view is that Mr. Perring has no claim but refused to comment. It was said at the bank that letters from Mr. Perring had been arriving for the past two years with no documents to support the claim.
