Cable car rescue method demonstrated, Zermatt, Switzerland
Dec. 12, 1984 - Safety platform for past rescue: To speed up rescue operations on cableways and minimalise the risks, Air Zermatt, the helicopter-equipped rescue organisation in Switzerland's winter and summer sport resort Zermatt (near the famous Matterhorn) has developed a new rescue system: While roping down the passengers of a blocked gondola (L) one by one lasts very long and needs help from the ground, the new safety platform carries up to six passengers down to a safe place within two minutes. The safety platform is brought in by helicopter, suspended at the cable of the cableway until the passengers are safely on the construction and then flown away by the helicopter to a safe landing place. The system was shown for the first time in a demonstration on December 18th in Zermatt
