Sep. 09, 1958 - Prince Norodom Sihanouk inaugurates his Working policy in Cambodia. Under the leadership of prince Norodom Sihanouk, prime a Minister of Cambodia - 30, 000 Cambodian a took part in the construction of a 13 KM long road linking the village of Dangkor and Wat Sleng, about 20 Km from the capital. This was the inauguration of the prince's Orking Policy - under which all government officials including princess - M. Ps - Soldiers - police etc. Must spend one month a year at manual labour - in the fields or factory. The crusade for manual labour aims at the leveling of the different classes. Photo shows Prince Sihanouk looks on as earth loosened by himself is loaded into a basket for removal by a peasant woman. many peasants consider soil thus loosened to be Sacred and take it back home to scatter it over their own paddy fields
