Feb. 02, 1960 - THE FIRST SEA LORD GOES TO COURT TO PLEAD FOR DAUGHTER OF FORMER VIET NAM PREMIER The First Sea Lord, ADMIRAL SIR CHARLES LAMB, went into the witness box yesterday and spoke in the defense of a beautiful Oriental girl accused of a -custom's offence. The girl, LYSETTE VAN-TAM, is the daughter of a former Viet Nam Premier. Sir Charles said he and his wife had acted as Lysette's parents and guardians in this oountry -.although not in a legal Bence. - after Lysette and her father had escaped from the Communists. Miss VAN-TAM is a 31-year-old student, and her father, Nguyen Van-Tam, was Viet Nam's Premier in 1952-53. He wss forced to resign after disagreements with Emperor Bao Dai. Yesterday she pleaded not guilty to attempting to remove four dresses and coat on which Customs duty had not been paid. The ease goes on today. Sir Charles, called as a witness on character, said he first met Miss Van-Tam when he was in the Far East as Commander-in-Chief and paid an official visit to Viet Nam where he had the privilege of calling on her father, who was then President of Viet Nam.
