Aug. 17, 1970 - Historic meeting in Ceylon.; The members of Ceylon's House of Representatives have formed themselves into a Constituent Assembly to draft, adopt and operate a new Constitution which will declare Ceylon to be a free, sovereign and independent Republic pleged to realise the objectives of a socialist democracy. The Constituent Assembly was formed on a resolution moved by the Prime Minister. Mrs. Sirimave Bandaranaike, at a special meeting of the House of Representative convened by the Prime Minister herself, at Navarangahala, the auditorium of the Royal Junior School, Colombo.
