Campbell Williams, verdict on Lady Chatterley play scene

Aug. 08, 1961 - Controversy over bedroom scene in Lady Chatterley play is settled by administrator. It will remain as is, he says after seeing it. Much controversy was aroused a few weeks ago when Lady Chatterley, a play based on D H Lawrence's novel, opened at the Arts Theatre. Some critics claimed that it did not fit in the spirit of the book; others said that it was obscene. To settle the matter as to whether the scene should be changed, the theatre's administrator, Campbell Williams, attended a special rehearsal this afternoon. His verdict: the scene will stay as it is.
