1968 - caption work starts on the twin 300 feet high tower blocks of Canadas largest municipal building project the 25, 000.000 dollar Toronto city hall. Anglin-Norcross, Ontario, Canadian associates of Holland $ Hannen and cubits ltd. Excavated to adopt of 50ft. to provide ancharege for the towers, whose distinctive crescent shape can already be seen in the ground form work. Some 82, 000 cubic yards of concrete, 10, 000 tons of reinforcing steel, 17 miles of caissons and enough walling and windows to build 1, 000 suburban homes are being used in the project. The tower blocks rise from a vast three story podium and between them. on the roof of the podium, is the oyster - shaped council chamber and executive suites. architect is viljo Revell of Helsinki, Finland.
