Feb. 26 Firewater buys horsepower in cross - border trade - off : It will go down in history as a magnificent meeting f the minds - one of the greatest chapters ever in the land and glorious history of Canadian U.S - trade relations. They met at the border at Champlain. N.Y. the whiskey-thristing Canadian and the gas-starved yank. fortunately our photographer was there to record the encounter. the exchange he reported was carried out amicably. but not without some hard bargaining by both sides. Finally, the Quebecer, who said the continuing labor dispute at Quebec liquor corp, was enough to drive even a teetotaler to drink, was happy to hand over two gallons of premium gas for a box good of U.A. Whiskey. the American, said the U.S. gas shortage didn't allow anyone to drive anywhere - even to drink, All he wanted was enough gas to get home. The exchange made, the two sides parted further meetings have not been entirely ruled out
