Oct. 10, 1970 - Canadian Government assumes emergency powers: The Canadian Government last Friday assumed emergency powers, outlawed the extremist Quebec Liberation Front members and sympathizers. The emergency was declared because the FLQ had ignored the Quebec Government's offer to release five so called political prisoners in exchange for the two men kidnapped by FLQ terrorists M Pierre Laporte, Quebec's Labor Minister (whose body was later found in the best of a car) and Mr. Jame Cross, the British diplomat. Photo shows soldiers have been placed in front of public buildings, about 6, 000 soldiers in Montreal
