Captain D Sorrell, Queen Mary, last voyage
Dec. 12, 1956 - CAPTAIN OF THE LINER QUEEN MARY COMPLETES HIS LAST VOYAGE. CAPTAIN D. SORRELL, 63, made his last voyage in command of the Cunard liner Queen Mary when be left the Ship at Southampton yesterday and returned to his wife at their luxury flat overlooking Southampton Docks. He is retiring at the end of the year after serving 47 years at sea. Capt. Sorrell, who holds the certificate of an Extra Master in Sail, displayed his great seamanship three years ago when, during a dock strike in New York, he berthed the Queen Mary without the aid of tugs or pilot.
