Aug. 08, 1957 - The death-tunnel of altenbek will be opened During one of the heavy air raids on February 22, 1945 it is said that approx, 100 persons perished in this tunnel, which has been dug deep into the mountain to serve as an air-raid shelter, dutch and Russian workers, anti -aircraft- gun helpers residents of Altenbck and travellors were among those buried in that disacstr, when an air mine f 11000 lbs crashed through the natural ceiling after the air-raid all dead anti - aircraft - gun helper had been found in front of the entrance. The entrance itself was completely buried. photo shows The digging has started from the western entrance into the tunnel on august 19, 1957 with a tunnel -dredger
