Sep. 09, 1958 - THE DUSTMAN WHO OWNS CADILLAC: Twenty-eight-year-old George Balmer empties dustbins for six days a week but feels like a millionaire. On the seventh day he looks like one. Wherever he goes, on his rounds for Chelsea Council, he finds he has a bigger and better car than anyone else. For George, who earns a £11 a week, owns a gleaming sky-blue 110 m.p.h. Cadillac. A 19-foot-long mass of gleaming chrome and power, which, new, would cost around £4, 000. George and his ash-blonde wife, Audrey, gave up drinks, cigarettes and going to dog-racing so they could ride around like millionaires. They bought the car secondhand for £450 - half the price down and £1 10s. a week. It costs £16 a year to insure and does 20 miles to the gallon. When they go away for week-ends there are no hotel bills because the seats convert into big double bed. Photo shows Dustman George and his wife Audrey pictured with their 110 m.p.h. Cadillac car
