Car Parts - Engines - Tire - Transportation - Vehicles

Feb. 26 First shipment of old-fashioned tires is on its way from Akron, Ohio, to Washington to meet the needs of the 200 antique automobile owners who will parade down Constitution Avenue September 23 in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the American Automobile Association. Such tires are laboriously made by hand by veteran employees of The Firestone Tire and Rubber Company to duplicate the ones used in the early 1900's. Forty years ago William H. Lincks wrapped the same kind of tires he is shown inspecting above as they were readied for shipment from the Firestone plant in Akron. The parade of 30 to 50-year-old cars from all parts of the country will be the highlight of the 1952 revival of the once-famous Glidden Tours. Official tire service center for Glidden tourists during their three-day stay in Washington will be the Firestone Store at 13th and K Streets, N. W
