1961 - Tidal flow traffic system in London. In an effort to ease traffic congestion in London, the minister of Transport, Mr. Ernest Marples today inaugurated a one way tidal flow system by which the Albert Bridge will become one-way into London during the morning rush hour, and one way out in the evening, The system is controlled by automatic electric signs. photo shows Normal traffic working in operation on the bridge, note the overhead sign showing as arrow and a cross, and the two-way traffic signs at either side
