Oct. 14, 1960 - The 1961 Thunderbird - third expression of the classic Thunderbird design - introduces new standards of luxury, performance and automotive styling. With no change in its basic character, the 1961 Thunderbird features distinctive new styling, greater comfort and convenience, and a new Thunderbird 390 four-barrel V-8 engine. The fully automatic soft top of this convertible folds neatly into the trunk compartment, giving a smooth, uncluttered fore-and-aft line to the car. The hardtop model has the classic Thunderbird greenhouse which is ten inches longer than that of the 1960 model. An optional steering column and wheel move to the side for easier driver entry and exit. A new written warranty for 12, 000 miles or one full year accompanies the 1961 Thunderbird, which will go on sale in November
