1965 - Introducing the new Japanese Sports Car.. The Toyota Sports 800.. The Toyota Sports Car - the 800 - goes on sale this week priced at 95.. The car only weighs 580 kgs unladen - being made mainly of aluminium alloys. The car is 3, 580 mm long and 1, 465 mm wide - and is of frameless monocoque construction - and under strain the shell will not twist - shiver or shake. It has a model 2U air cooled, 2 cylinder engine of 790cc. with an output of 45 bhp at 5, 400 rpm. Compression ratio is 9.0 - 1 - and twin carburretor has been fitted. It has very brisk acceleration - and top speed of 155 Kmh - and has a consumption averaging 31 Km per litre. It has a four speed synchromesh gearbox.. Independent suspension torsion bars - double acting shock absorbers. The roof can be taken off in 30 seconds - and can be packed into the boot..
