May 05, 1966 - Mobile Hotel For Tourists - The Rotel': A long-distance touring coach, with sleeping accommodation for 27 passengers, has recently been complated, in Stugtgart, Germany, and shipped to the United States, where it will be employed full-time on tours in North and South America. Called the Rotel, is 39 feet 4 inches long, 7 feet 10, inches wide, and has normal overall height of 12 ft. 8 inches although this height can be reduced by six inches when low bridges are encountered, by the simple expedient of reducing the pressure in the air suspension. The vehicle weighs 12.5 tons unladon, and is powered by a Bussing 172 horizontal diesel engine mounted at the rear, above this being the luggage accommodation. In the lower saloon there are 27 seates arranged around folding tables, whilst in the upper saloon there are 21 transverse single bunks and three double bunks. Other facilities include a fully equipped kitchen, washing and changing room, lavatories and a shower cubiele. The Rotel is air-conditioned, this plant being powered by a Volkswagen petrol engine which also supplies power for lights and water heating.
