1968 - The first jet car to race in Britain arrives by air from New York; On Sunday April 7th, 1968, the first jet powered car to race in Britain will compete in the BOAC International 5008 at Brands Hatch, Kent. The car, an American Howmet Tx turbine, was flown in to London Airport today on board a BOAC freighter aircraft. The co-pilot of thee BOAC freighter, has been selected by the Howmet Corporation as one of the two drivers for the car in the International 500'. He is First Officer Hugh Dibley
