Feb. 02, 1968 - Pneumatic Jack Demonstrated. An inflatable pneumatic jack, which can be used for raising a vehicle, or load, by using the gas pressure from the vehicle's own exhaust system, was demonstrated at Cardington, Beds, where it was developed by the Research and Development technicians. It is simply a neoprene/nylon bag which is placed under the vehicle and a rubber pipe is then connected to the vehicle's exhaust pipe. The engine's exhaust gasses then inflate the bag as soon as the engine is started, thus lifting the vehicle clear of the ground. It is useful on soft ground, or snow, when the use of an ordinary jack would be impractical.
